2025 East Coast Spore Count Results
Spore counts are on the rise this week in Ngatapa, Pehiri, Tolaga, and Te Karaka, with Tolaga hitting the highest count at 40,000 spores per gram. Interestingly, Nuhaka has seen a significant drop from 140,000 down to 30,000. While only a few clinical cases in sheep have been reported, remember that for every visible case, there are likely many more subclinical infections. The recent southerly wet weather should help slow sporulation by lowering temperatures, but if warm conditions return in the coming weeks, the added moisture could drive another spike in spore levels. Regular monitoring on your own property remains the best way to assess your specific risk.
Stay vigilant, as early action can help minimise the impact on stock health. If you’re seeing signs of facial eczema, consult your vet for prevention and management strategies.
